Two young men were killed in a ‘brutal beating’ by a mob in the Dipnagar area of Darus Salam in the capital on Saturday afternoon. Imdad Hossain Bipul, assistant commissioner of Darus Salam Zone, said the incident occurred at around noon.

Police reported that one of the deceased was named Tanvir, while the identity of the other remains unknown. Preliminary investigations suggest that both were accused drug dealers and muggers.

According to a police officer, an anti-drug operation had been conducted in the area on Friday, which sparked tension among locals. Against this backdrop, allegations arose that the two youths entered the area on Saturday noon and openly brandished sharp weapons, engaging in a display of force.

In this heated situation, an agitated mob caught and beat the two, which later turned fatal. Police arrived at the scene, rescued them, and took them to the hospital, where doctors declared both dead.

Assistant Commissioner Bipul stated that police patrols have been intensified in the area and the situation is under control.

Police said they are identifying those involved in the brutal beating by reviewing CCTV footage and questioning locals.

A murder case is underway in connection with the incident.
