Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has termed the incident of mob violence against former Election Commissioner Nurul Huda is unacceptable. 

If law enforcement personnel were involved, necessary steps will be taken after investigation,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Monday morning during a visit to the Horticulture Center in Mouchaak, Gazipur.

The adviser clarified that reports of former Chief Election Commissioner KM Habibul Awal being arrested were incorrect. “He has not been arrested.

However, former CEC Nurul Huda was detained from Uttara. The way mob justice was carried out during his detention is undesirable. Regarding land protection, he noted that a new law is being formulated to prevent the encroachment of agricultural land.

He also emphasized the need to boost production of local fruits alongside foreign varieties to ensure indigenous species are preserved.

During the visit, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, Superintendent of Police Dr Chowdhury Jaber Sadeq, Horticulture Center Director Enamul Haque, along with senior officials from the police and agriculture ministry, were present.

The adviser toured various sections of the Horticulture Center, spoke with staff, and provided several directives.
