Mitford murder: Two brothers put on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed two brothers, Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari, on five-day remand in connection with the brutal killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of the Mitford Hospital in the city.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia passed the order on Monday allowing the petition filed by investigating officer Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, seeking seven-day remand in the murder case.

However, the accused, were not represented by a lawyer during the hearing.

Police arrested Sajib and Rajib from Netrakona on Sunday, four days after Sohag was killed near Gate No 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

Following the incident, two separate cases were filed with Kotwali Police Station – one for murder and the other under the Arms Act.

So far, seven people have arrested by police and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
