A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand each for two suspects, Alomgir and Monir, in connection with the brutal murder of Lal Chand alias Sohag (39), a scrap trader who was beaten to death with stones in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.
The two were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Sunday.
Inspector Nasir Uddin, the investigating officer from Kotwali Police Station, sought a seven-day remand for each, citing the need for thorough investigation.
After the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Sefat Ullah approved a four-day remand for both. Alomgir and Monir are the fourth and fifth accused named in the case respectively.
Earlier, on July 10 and 12, the court had granted five-day remands for two other accused, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin and Titon Gazi.
The incident occurred on July 9 around 6pm near gate no.3 of Mitford Hospital, where a group of men attacked Sohag with stones and sharp weapons, killing him in a gruesome manner on Rajani Ghosh Lane.
The following day, Sohag’s sister Manjuara Begum filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 individuals and accusing another 15–20 unidentified persons.
The victim, Md Sohag, was a resident of Purbo Namabari village in Keraniganj and had been running a scrap business for years in Rajani Ghosh Lane, close to the murder scene.
