DNA samples, including bone and tissue samples, were collected on Wednesday from six bodies recovered from a garment factory in Rupnagar area of the city’s Mirpur.
However, no bodies were handed over to families on Wednesday.
The autopsies were conducted at the Dhaka Medical College morgue on Wednesday evening by Dr Farhana Yasmin, lecturer of the forensic medicine department, in presence of CID forensic lab examiner Md Masud Rabbi.
Masud Rabbi confirmed that autopsies of six bodies have been completed, and bone and tissue samples have been taken for DNA testing. Samples from the remaining bodies will be collected on Thursday.
Claimants of the remains have been asked to visit the Malibagh CID lab at 9 am Thursday to provide their own DNA samples.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Muklesur Rahman Laskar of Rupnagar Police Station prepared the inquest reports on all 16 bodies recovered from the scene on Tuesday.
Eleven have been identified by name, while five remain unidentified. In some cases, two or more families have claimed the same body. DNA samples will be collected from all the bodies as well as from the claimants to confirm identities.
The six autopsied bodies, which will be handed over to families Thursday are Mahira Akter, 14, daughter of the late Omar Faruq from Bamna, Barguna; Nargis Akter, 18, daughter of Wazi Ullah from Daligar Nagar, Lalmohan in Bhola; Sanowar Hossain, 25, son of Mizanur Rahman from Nijpara, Nalitabari in Sherpur; Nure Alam Sarkar, 23, son of Aminul Islam from Bhabanipur in Gaibandha; Al Mamun, 38, son of the late Mojibur Rahman from Darikata, Amtali in Barguna; Robiul Islam Robin, 20, son of Nazu Mia from Tilkonogor, Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria.
Additionally, the following individuals have been reported missing, include Farzana Akter, 15, daughter of Ratan Mia from Golla Rajapur, Dharmapasha, Sunamganj; Khalid Hasan Sabbir, 29, son of Monirul Islam from Islampur, Barguna Sadar; Abdul Alim, 14, son of Nur Islam from Krishnapur, Singra in Natore; Joy Mia, 20, and his wife Marzia Sultana, 18, from Nurulla village, Barhatta of Netrokona, Asma Akter, 13, daughter of Nayan Mia from Southkhali, Mohanganj of Netrokona; Muna Akter Samia, 16, daughter of Sonu Mia from Kadamshri, Madan of Netrokona; Mousumi Khatun, 22, daughter of Abdul Mannan from Paschim Nowdabas, Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat; Mukta Begum, 36, daughter of Musa Dewan from Sureshwar, Naria, Shariatpur; Tofail Ahmed, 18, son of Joj Mia from Jaipur, Mohanganj, Netrokona; Najmul Islam Riaz, 40, from Panti, Kumarkhali, Kushtia.
One of the bodies has been claimed by two different families, one identifying it as 14-year-old Abdul Alim, and the other as 18-year-old Tofail Ahmed, highlighting the ongoing difficulties in confirming identities.
