Another burn victim in fighter jet crash has been discharged from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Wednesday after significant recovery.
The discharged one was Farzana Yasmin, 45, a teacher of the Milestone School and College, and as of the latest update, five burn victims have been released from the institute and two victims remain in critical condition in the ICU.
Professor Dr Nasir Uddin, director of burn institute, shared the latest information during a press briefing at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.
He said that, as of Tuesday, three patients had been in the ICU. However, one of them showed signs of improvement and was transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) on Wednesday.
He said currently, 32 patients are receiving treatment at the burn institute, with three in critical condition and seven classified as severe and the remaining patients are stable and are now undergoing treatment in various wards and cabins.
The director also noted that there have been no new deaths in the last three days.
He also stated that out of the 32 patients, 14 are showing improvement, while the rest are stable. Since the incident, a total of 158 minor and major surgeries have been performed on the patients, many of whom have undergone multiple surgeries.
Prof Nasir Uddin also announced that from Wednesday onward, there will no longer be formal briefings at the institute and the daily updates will now be provided through press releases.
Meanwhile, Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the institute, told the newsmen that the medical teams of Singapore, China and Bangladesh held a meeting on Wednesday and reviewed the health condition of every patient to decide the next course of treatment. The Indian medical team, however, has already left the country, he confirmed.
On July 21, the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter jet crashed on the Milestone school campus has so far claimed 34 lives and left more than 150 injured.
