India is providing medical assistance for the treatment of those injured in the crash of a training fighter jet at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. The country has announced it will send specialist doctors, nurses, and specialized equipment to treat burn patients in Dhaka.

Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Additional Secretary (East and West) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed this information.

Dr. Nazrul Islam said India made the decision based on discussions between the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and India. He did not provide further details immediately.

Meanwhile, citing a senior official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, the BBC reported that a small team, including two specialist doctors with long experience in burn units and several nurses, will arrive in Dhaka late Tuesday night.

According to a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shortly after the plane crash on Monday (July 21), Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam by phone. Misri expressed India’s readiness to offer all possible assistance to Bangladesh in the wake of the Milestone tragedy.

Earlier on Monday evening, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep condolences over the plane crash in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He conveyed sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Modi also stated that India stands by Bangladesh and is ready to provide all kinds of support and assistance.

Following Modi’s post, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka officially sent a letter expressing interest in providing necessary medical assistance to the injured. An official from the Indian Embassy in Dhaka said they requested the Bangladesh government to share any required information if specialized medical aid for the injured is needed.

Since then, communication between the two countries’ foreign ministries has continued. As a result, India has finalized the decision to send doctors, nurses, and specialized equipment to Dhaka.
