The government has introduced two toll-free helplines to provide emergency assistance, in the aftermath of the tragic Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.

The helplines—’109′ from the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs and ‘1098’ from the Ministry of Social Welfare—are available for those seeking urgent help and information regarding the ongoing crisis, says a press release.

The aircraft, a BAF F-7 BGI fighter jet, crashed into the school building on Monday afternoon, claiming the lives of 31 people, including 25 children, a pilot, and a teacher.

As of Tuesday noon, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) reported that 31 people have been confirmed dead, and 165 others have been injured. These injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at 10 hospitals across the capital.

Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the Chief Adviser on Health and Family Welfare, provided further details in a press briefing at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirming that the victims included 25 children, the pilot, and a teacher.

The newly launched helplines aim to assist those affected by the tragedy, offering support for both survivors and the families of the victims.
