Two more victims of the BAF training jet F7 crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara have died from severe burn injuries, bringing the death toll to 35, hospital authorities have confirmed.
Thirteen-year-old Zarif Farhan, a seventh-grade student in the school’s English version section, died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday morning.
“Zarif suffered burns to 40% of his body, including his respiratory tract. He had been on life support in critical condition but passed away in the ICU,” said Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, the institute’s resident surgeon.
Zarif’s father, Habibur Rahman, said the family is originally from Shreepur in Rajbari district but has been living in Uttara. “He was our youngest child,” Rahman told local reporters.
Shortly after Zarif’s death, Masuma Begum, 36, a staff member of the school, also died from her injuries. She had suffered burns over 90% of her body.
“Masuma’s airways were severely damaged. Despite intensive care, she could not survive,” Dr Rahman said.
The hospital now has 38 patients under treatment, including three in critical condition in the ICU. Masuma’s husband, Selim, said the family, originally from Bhola district, had been living in Turag’s Nayanagar Shukrabangha area with their son and daughter.
The crash occurred earlier this week when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft F-7 went down on the school premises, causing a massive fire and injuring dozens.
