Milestone tragedy: Another victim loses life

Mahfuza (45), a teacher at Milestone School and College in Diabari, Dhaka, who was critically injured in a plane crash, has died after 25 days of treatment.

She passed away on Thursday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. The death was confirmed by the institute’s resident surgeon Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman.

Dr. Rahman said Mahfuza had suffered burns on 25 per cent of her body in the explosion. However, the risk to her life escalated after infections spread across the affected areas, and despite the highest efforts of the medical board, she could not be saved.

Currently, 23 other patients remain admitted at the burn institute, with one in the ICU.

With Mahfuza’s death, the number of crash deaths at the institute has risen to 19. So far, 14 patients have been discharged from the hospital. The total death toll from the incident now stands at 35.

On July 21 an Air force jet crashed on Milestone School and College compound in Diabari.
