Another child who was undergoing treatment after being severely burned in the crash of an Air Force fighter jet at Milestone School and College in Uttara has died. The child, named Musabbir Makin (17), was being treated at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute with 70% burns.
He passed away at 1:05pm on Friday. With this, the total number of deaths at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute has now reached 15, with the overall death toll of the crash reaching 33.
Following Makin’s death, 40 others are still receiving treatment at the Burn Institute.
Earlier, during a regular briefing at the Burn Institute at around 8pm on Thursday, the institute’s director, Professor Dr Nasir Uddin, stated that out of 42 patients under treatment, six were in critical condition.
In another development 13 patients have been moved to cabin care due to some improvement in their physical condition.
Dr Nasir Uddin shared this information during a press conference at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Thursday night. Senior doctors of the institute were also present at the time.
Expressing grief over the deaths of two students under treatment on Thursday, Dr Nasir said, “Currently, 42 patients are still admitted. Among them, eight—including six in critical condition—have been placed in the ICU.”
As the condition of 13 patients has improved significantly, they have been moved to cabin care. Plans are underway to discharge them soon, and they will need to return later for follow-up treatment, he added.
Dr. Nasir Uddin further said, “A medical team from India arrived on Thursday. In addition, we held another meeting with a medical team from Singapore who arrived on Wednesday. A virtual meeting was also held with medical specialists from China. The patients are being treated in coordination with these expert teams, including the health advisor.”
He mentioned that the global community has extended a helping hand to treat these young children.
