Two students injured in the Milestone School plane crash have been released from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery following significant recovery, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Professor Dr Nasir Uddin, director of the institute, shared the update at a press briefing around 2:45pm.

The students, Ayan Khan, 12, and Rafsi, 12, were discharged shortly after noon. Both sustained burn injuries in the crash but have made steady progress under medical care.

However, the day brought tragic news as two other victims, Masuma Begum, 36, and Zarif Farhan, 13, succumbed to their injuries earlier in the morning, raising the death toll from the incident to 35.

As of Saturday afternoon, 36 patients remain admitted to the hospital. “Among them, four are in critical condition and receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. Nine others are classified as ‘CBR’, meaning less critical but under close observation. The remaining patients are being treated in general wards,” Dr Nasir said.

The hospital is preparing to release at least 10 more patients gradually over the next week, depending on their recovery.

The crash occurred shortly after 1pm on July 21 when an Air Force F-7 BGI fighter jet slammed into the Milestone School building, leaving scores of students and staff injured. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

The interim government has declared a day of national mourning over the tragedy, which marks one of the deadliest air accidents in the country’s history.
