Families of those killed and injured in the recent plane crash have staged a kafon (shroud) march and human chain in front of Milestone School and College, demanding justice, compensation, and a nationwide ban on coaching businesses in all educational institutions.
During the programme, held on Tuesday at Uttara’s Diabari roundabout, they alleged that the Milestone College authorities and teachers have been issuing threats to prevent them from organising any protest over the incident.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Leon Mir, uncle of Milestone School student Fatima (deceased), presented their eight-point demand.
These include ensuring a fair investigation and trial of the crash, shutting down coaching businesses in all educational institutions including Milestone, and providing Tk5 crore in compensation from the government for each deceased student and Tk1 crore for each injured student.
Additionally, they demanded Tk2 crore for each deceased student and Tk1 crore for each injured student from the school.
Other demands include relocating the school away from the runway area or moving the runway itself, removing the principal, Khadija, within 72 hours for her alleged role as the mastermind behind the coaching business, ensuring her trial through a fair investigation, showing the school’s CCTV footage to the families, and shifting Air Force training operations to uninhabited areas.
The families have been given a 72-hour ultimatum for the fulfilment of these demands, warning of a larger movement if the authorities fail to act within the stipulated time.
