Microbus-truck collision in Feni leaves 1 dead, 8 hurt

One person was killed and eight others were injured when a microbus rammed into the rear of a truck in Feni on Sunday night.

The accident occurred around 9:30 pm near the Starlight pump area of Lalpol on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Police have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased at the time of filing this report.

According to police and local sources, the victims were travelling from Feni’s Mohipal area to Chattogram in a microbus when it crashed into a truck in Lalpol. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Feni General Hospital, where doctors declared one person dead, reports UNB.

The injured are identified as Robiul Islam, 26, son of Abdur Rashid from Purbo Ukil Para in Feni; Amjad Hossain, 36, son of Abul Kashem from Char Purgacha village in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur; Shakil, 24, son of Hashem from Purbachal Kolakoba village in the same upazila; Mehedi Hasan, 20, son of Shipon from Dholia area in Feni Sadar; Hasan, 20, son of Alomgir Hossain from the same area; Ibrahim, 25, son of Siraj Uddin from Loluya area of Kabirhat upazila in Noakhali; Rakib, 25, son of Kamal Uddin from Purbo Sholakhiya area of Maijdee; and Mahfuz, 30, son of Eskandar Neyamat Ullah from Fakira village of Sitakunda in Chattogram.

Two of the injured were later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition, while the others are receiving treatment at Feni General Hospital.

Mahipal Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harun Ur Rashid said the body of the deceased has been kept at the hospital morgue, and efforts are underway to identify the victim. The microbus involved in the accident has been seized, and necessary legal action will follow after an investigation.
