Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2025, following his stellar performances in the recently concluded Test series against Zimbabwe.
The 27-year-old outshone fellow nominees Blessing Muzarabani of Zimbabwe and New Zealand’s Ben Sears to claim the prestigious monthly award, becoming only the third Bangladeshi cricketer to do so after Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan. This marks Mehidy’s maiden win in the ICC’s Player of the Month honours, adding another milestone to an already decorated international career.
Miraz, who played a pivotal role with both bat and ball during the two-match series, expressed his delight after receiving the award. “It’s an incredible honour to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month,” he said. “The ICC Awards are the ultimate recognition for any cricketer, and to receive this through a global vote means a lot to me.”
Reflecting on his journey, Mehidy added, “Moments like these take me back to my early days — being named Player of the Tournament in the 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cup was a big boost, and this feels just as special. This award will inspire me to continue giving my best for Bangladesh. We, as cricketers, dream of making a difference and bringing joy to the fans. Recognition like this motivates me to perform consistently for my country. I thank my teammates, coaches, and the supporters — this belongs to them too.”
His statistics from the Zimbabwe series speak volumes about his all-round excellence. Across two Tests, Miraz claimed 15 wickets at an average of just 11.86 and scored 116 runs at 38.66 — underlining his importance in both departments.
The first Test in Sylhet saw Mehidy deliver a masterclass with the ball. Despite Zimbabwe winning a tightly contested match by three wickets, the off-spinner picked up consecutive five-wicket hauls, returning figures of 5 for 52 and 5 for 50 in the two innings. His efforts kept Bangladesh in contention throughout the match and demonstrated his ability to turn games single-handedly.
However, it was in the second Test in Chattogram where Mehidy truly stamped his authority. After Zimbabwe were bundled out for a below-par score in the first innings, the all-rounder showcased his batting prowess with a superb 104 off 162 balls. His century helped Bangladesh build a dominant lead, setting the stage for a series-leveling win.
He then capped off the match with another five-wicket haul — his third in the series — finishing with figures of 5 for 32 as Zimbabwe collapsed in their second innings. Bangladesh wrapped up the Test with a convincing victory by an innings and 106 runs.
This latest accolade highlights Mehidy’s continued evolution as one of Bangladesh’s most dependable players across formats. With both bat and ball, his contributions remain vital as Bangladesh look to build on recent momentum ahead of a busy international calendar.
