The government has withdrawn medals from 40 officers who have remained absent from duty since the fall of the Awami League-led government on August 5, 2024, following the July Mass Uprising.

DIGs, superintendents of police (SPs) and inspectors are among the police officers. All of them are currently fugitives and now under temporary suspension.

To this effect, a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Tawshif Ahmed was issued on Sunday by the Public Security Division at the home ministry.

“Police medals awarded to 40 officers in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022 have been withdrawn,” the notification says.

It further said that all financial benefits related to these medals have been discontinued and instructions have been given to return any funds previously received in connection with the medals.
