BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has alleged that many people have fallen into greed for different benefits after the August 5 political changeover.

“If anyone thinks they can get away through holding people hostage for tenders and transfers, that is a wishful thinking. Anything gained in such a way will end up in the dustbins. We need elections and an elected government to meet public expectations,” he said

Annie made these remarks on Monday while speaking at a discussion titled “The Record of Achieving the Dreams and Expectations of Young People”.

The Revolutionary Youth Solidarity organised the event at the National Press Club in the capital on the anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

The BNP leader said, “There is doubt as to whether the fascist Awami League can even be called a political party.”

After the country’s independence, the atrocities of “Rakkhi Bahini”, “BAKSAL” and Sheikh Hasina’s 17 years of corruption and misrule have held the people hostage and exhausted the nation, Annie mentioned.

“The new political party that has emerged should engage in repeated discussions and provide advice. Other political parties should share their experiences on how much this government can reform — but they are not doing so.”
