Mango prices have dropped significantly in Rajshahi this season despite a bumper harvest, with popular varieties like Langra and Himsagar arriving in markets earlier than scheduled.

Farmers and traders say mango production is higher this year due to favorable weather and a high rate of flowering. According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, 98% of mango trees in Rajshahi bore fruit this season, with no major weather damage reported.

Langra mangoes, officially scheduled to be harvested from June 10, and Himsagar from May 30, are already being sold in markets 8–10 days early. Traders say some mangoes ripened early on the trees, prompting early picking.

Prices have fallen by Tk 700 to Tk 1,000 per maund (approximately 37 kg) compared to last year. Himsagar is now selling for Tk 1,600–1,800 per maund, while Gopalbhog is fetching the highest price at up to Tk 2,400 per maund.

Around 60,000 hectares in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, and Naogaon are under mango cultivation this year, with a production target of 260,000 metric tons in Rajshahi district alone.

Although prices are low, traders remain hopeful for higher demand ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, despite rising courier costs affecting online sales.
