A man was killed when a passenger bus ran over him in Mugda area of the capital on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Atiqur Rahman, 45, an employee of Dhaka Railway.
Traffic Sergeant Md Mostafizur Rahman, who was on duty at the scene, said that the incident occurred around 8:30am, as Atiqur attempted to board a bus in front of Mugda Hospital. A bus from ‘Turag Paribahan’ reportedly ran over him while overtaking another vehicle.
Atiqur was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an injured condition but the doctor declared him dead at around 12:45 pm.
The police immediately seized the bus involved in the incident.
Obaidur Rahman, a colleague of the deceased, shared that Atiqur was originally from Uttar Islampur village in Munshiganj Sadar upazila. He lived in a mess at Sabujbagh Basabo in Dhaka and worked at the Dhaka Railway Kamalapur (SS Peter) station. Atiqur’s wife and three children live in their village home.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, stated that the body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy, with further investigation ongoing.
