A man was killed and another injured in a violent altercation over a land dispute at Dhobpukur Bazar in Shibganj upazila on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Nazrul Islam, 55, son of Siddiq Biswas of Upartola village in Mobarakpur Union. The injured is Sabuj Ali Sujan, 32, a Union Parishad member and resident of the same village.
According to Golam Kibria, Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station, a long-standing dispute had existed between Nazrul Islam and his brother Arfazul Biswas over the boundary of a piece of land. On Friday night, an argument broke out between the two brothers, during which Arfazul’s son, Anas Biswas, 18, allegedly attacked Nazrul with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the abdomen.
UP member Sabuj Ali Sujan was also injured while trying to intervene and save Nazrul. Locals rushed the injured to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Nazrul Islam dead. Sujan was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Police are investigating the incident.
