Man dies from burns in Mahakhali filling station fire

Mír Hossain, 55, who was severely burned in a fire at the Eureka Filling Station in the capital’s Mahakhali area, succumbed to his injuries at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Sultan Mahmud Sikder, the acting resident surgeon of the Burn Institute’s emergency department, confirmed the news of his death around 3:45 pm.

The incident occurred last Sunday at around 7:15 pm when a fire broke out at the Eureka petrol station. Mír Hossain, who worked as a security guard at the station, sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately taken to the burn institute.

His injuries included 45 percent burns to his body, including his airway. He had been under intensive care until his death.

The petrol station’s cashier, Shadakat Hossain, revealed that Mír Hossain had been working at the station for nearly 20 years and hailed from Munshiganj district’s Sadar Upazila.
