Maldives has appointed Bollywood superstar Katrina Kaif as its new Global Tourism Ambassador. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), which expressed its excitement about the collaboration with one of the most recognisable faces in the global film industry.
The decision comes a month before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maldives and amid warming ties between India and Maldives after relations deteriorated at the beginning of last year, reports regional news agencies.
“Having Katrina Kaif as our Global Brand Ambassador is a moment of great pride for us,” said Thoyyib Mohamed, managing director of MMPRC. “Her popularity, combined with her influence in the global entertainment industry, will undoubtedly help us attract more visitors from across the world, especially from India.”
Visit Maldives announced Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif as its Global Ambassador on X, welcoming her as a symbol of “A true icon of grace and elegance” embodying the essence of islands. Kaif, well known for her Maldives visits and luxury travel appeal, will lead campaigns to promote the islands. Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO & MD of Visit Maldives said that the country was “thrilled” to have Katrina as the global brand ambassador.
“Her vibrant personality and strong connection with audiences worldwide make her a perfect representative for the Sunny Side of Life,” he said .
