Major General (Retd) Md Nazrul Islam on Sunday assumed his new role as the Executive Member (Planning and Development) at the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA).
This marks a significant step in his career as he takes on the responsibility of shaping the future of Bangladesh’s economic zones.
Nazrul Islam, known for his distinguished service in the Bangladesh Army, has held several key command, staff, and training roles across various levels of the military. His extensive experience in leadership and management makes him well-suited to drive the planning and development initiatives at BEZA.
Before his appointment at BEZA, Major General Islam served as the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), where he earned a reputation for fostering good governance and ensuring efficiency in development activities. His tenure at BEPZA is widely regarded as a model for effective leadership and operational excellence.
In his new role, he will focus on developing five key economic zones identified by the government, including the National Special Economic Zone, Jamalpur, Sreehatta, Moheshkhali, and the Japanese Economic Zone, according to a BEZA statement.
His mission is to make these zones more investment-friendly, with a clear timeline for progress, contributing to the country’s growth and economic development.
This strategic appointment is seen as a major step in BEZA’s ongoing efforts to enhance Bangladesh’s position in the global economic landscape.
