Mahmud Hasan Khan has been declared the new president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the 2025-27 term, after emerging as the sole candidate for the post.

The BGMEA election board, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed that no other nominations had been submitted for the top position. Khan, who led the Forum panel during the May 31 biennial election, is set to officially take charge on June 16 along with seven newly elected vice-presidents.

The vice-presidents are Salim Rahman (first vice-president), Inamul Haq Khan (senior vice-president), Mijanur Rahman (vice-president for finance), and Md Rezwan Selim, Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md Sehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.

This year’s election, held simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram, saw the Forum panel securing a dominant victory, winning 31 out of 35 director posts. Their rival, Sammilito Parishad, managed just four — one in Dhaka and three in Chattogram.

The BGMEA leadership change follows a turbulent year for the association. The last president, SM Mannan Kochi, stepped down in October 2024, months after the fall of the Hasina-led government.

Subsequently, the interim government appointed former bureaucrat Md Anwar Hossain as BGMEA administrator to facilitate the election process.
