Mahfuj urges modernisation of journalism, communication curricula to keep pace with evolving media landscape

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam has emphasised the need to modernise training curricula and enhance the quality of instruction to align with evolving media trends.

He made the remarks during a visit to the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) and the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI) on Wednesday afternoon.

During the visit, he held separate meeting with officials from both institutions, highlighting the importance of equipping media professionals with up-to-date skills and knowledge.

Speaking to officials at NIMC, the adviser highlighted the institute’s potential in developing human resources. “There is significant scope for NIMC to contribute to human resource development, and we must fully utilise these opportunities,” he said.

He called for updating the training curriculum to keep pace with modern media trends and stressed the importance of improving training quality. The adviser also underscored the need to expand collaboration between NIMC and international media training institutions.

He also urged the institute to organise specialised journalism training programmes for journalists and student protesters who were injured during July uprising.

During his meeting with BCTI officials, the adviser reiterated the importance of updating the institute’s training modules to match contemporary needs. He assured full support from the ministry for infrastructure upgrades and overall institutional development.

He also encouraged BCTI to focus on enhancing the quality and relevance of its training programmes to meet the evolving demands of the film and television industry.

The visits were attended by NIMC Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman (NDC), BCTI Chief Executive Officer Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, and senior officials from both institutions.
