Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique will undergo surgery after fracturing his collarbone in a cycling accident on 5 September. The 55-year-old Spaniard, known for his love of cycling, was treated by emergency services immediately following the crash. Medical reports indicate the fracture was severe enough to require surgical intervention.

PSG confirmed the news later on their official X account, expressing full support for Enrique and wishing him a swift recovery. “Further updates will be shared in due course,” the club added.

Enrique, who joined PSG in 2023, led the club to its first-ever Champions League title in June 2025, in addition to two successive Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, and a run to the FIFA Club World Cup final in July. He was last in the dugout on 30 August as PSG defeated Toulouse 6-3 in Ligue 1, with Portuguese midfielder João Neves scoring a hat-trick in the final game before the international break.

The upcoming fixtures for PSG include a Ligue 1 clash against Lens on 14 September, followed by the start of their Champions League defence against Atalanta three days later.

Treatment for the fractured collarbone will likely involve inserting a small plate and screws to stabilise the bone, followed by several weeks of immobilisation and rehabilitation. While recovery timelines vary, experts suggest Enrique could be sidelined for six to eight weeks, though the demands of coaching at the top level may extend his absence.

Luis Enrique previously coached Barcelona to a continental treble and served two spells as Spain’s national team manager between 2018 and 2022.
