A well marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify further, increasing heavy to very heavy rain across much of Bangladesh over the next several days.

The southwest monsoon has already advanced into Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and the eastern part of Dhaka division, according to the Bangladesh Met office.

From  May 28 through June 2, most areas in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Some places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may see moderately heavy to very heavy rain.

Rainfall totals are expected to range between 100 and 300 millimeters during this period, with isolated areas—especially in parts of Indian state of Meghalaya and surrounding regions—potentially exceeding 500 millimeters.

Parts of Rangpur and Rajshahi division may experience scattered showers.
