From the earliest hours of Thursday, 31-gun salutes echoed across districts, signalling the start of the day’s official programme.
Memorials and statues of freedom fighters became focal points for paying tribute, as district administrations, educational institutions, political and cultural organisations, and citizens laid wreaths and offered prayers.
Flag hoisting ceremonies at government offices, schools, and universities were accompanied by the national anthem, evoking a deep sense of unity and reflection.
Across the country, public participation was notable, with individuals visiting memorials personally to honour the martyrs.
Stadiums, parks, and university grounds hosted colourful parades, student displays, physical exercises, and cultural programmes, highlighting both the sacrifices of the past and the aspirations of a free and democratic Bangladesh.
From Barishal to Nilphamari, Rangpur to Satkhira, Tangail to Chattogram, every district balanced solemn remembrance with festive events.
Observances reflected a shared national commitment to the values of freedom, equality, and justice, reminding citizens of their enduring responsibilities to preserve the country’s independence and uphold the legacy of those who gave their lives in the Liberation War.
Barishal
Barishal began the day with 31-gun salutes at sunrise. Wreaths were laid at the Shaheed Muktijoddha Memorial and Trish Godown killing ground by district officials, representatives of political parties, social organisations, and members of the public. Many citizens visited personally with flowers to pay tribute.
Later, the district administration organised a ceremonial parade at Bels Park, featuring marching contingents from schools, colleges, and civic organisations.
The parade, coupled with patriotic songs and displays, provided a visual celebration of the nation’s independence and unity.
Narayanganj
In Narayanganj, celebrations included public access to the Bangladesh Navy ship Banouja at Ali Ganj Naval Berth, Fatulla, from 9am to 5pm.
Citizens, including foreign tourists, visited the ship to observe and learn about naval operations, adding an interactive dimension to the day’s commemorations.
Nilphamari
Nilphamari’s central Independence Day ceremony took place at the Government High School ground. The day began with flag hoisting by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman and Police Superintendent Sheikh Zahidul Islam.
The national anthem resounded across the venue, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence.
Freedom fighters were formally welcomed with floral tributes, and officials, students, and citizens offered homage at the ‘Smriti Amlan’ memorial.
Bandarban
In the hill district of Bandarbaan, MP Sachin Pru Jerry laid the first wreath at the War Memorial in the Meghla area.
A flag hoisting followed at Bandarban Stadium, accompanied by the national anthem.
The day featured a ceremonial parade, student performances, and athletic displays, highlighting both respect for freedom fighters and the district’s celebratory spirit.
Rangpur
Rangpur residents gathered at Surabhi Udyan and Shaheed Abu Sayeed Stadium, paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs and expressing aspirations for a just and democratic society.
The day began with floral tributes by Division Commissioner Shahidul Islam.
A colourful parade and student displays followed at the stadium, involving 38 participating teams from schools and colleges.
The events combined disciplined marches, cultural performances, and physical exercises, emphasising both national pride and community engagement.
Satkhira
In Satkhira, 31-gun salutes at Shahid Abdur Razzak Park heralded the day. The national flag was hoisted, followed by wreath-laying at the park’s Shaheed Minar.
Students’ displays and physical exercise performances at the stadium created a festive environment while maintaining solemnity in honouring the martyrs.
Tangail
Tangail observed the day with 31-gun salutes at sunrise and flag hoisting at the district’s martyr memorial near the city water tank. District administration officials, political and social organisations, and local citizens laid wreaths and offered prayers.
At Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, the day began with flag hoisting at the administrative building, followed by wreath-laying at the Muktijuddho and Shadhinota Vaskorjo Prottoy’71 sculpture. Students and faculty participated in parades, while campus prayers and reflection events honoured the martyrs’ sacrifices.
Jamalpur
In Jamalpur, the Independence Day programme began with 31-gun salutes at the district’s Muktijoddha Sangsad ground. BNP National Executive Committee co-organising secretary and Jamalpur Sadar MP Advocate Wares Ali Mamun laid the first wreath at the Shaheed Bir Muktijoddha Smriti Stambha.
Subsequently, the district administration, police, cultural organisations, press clubs, and educational institutions placed wreaths at the memorial.
Government and private offices hoisted the national flag simultaneously, marking the day with dignity and civic pride.
Kishoreganj
Kishoreganj started the day with 31-gun salutes at sunrise. District administration officials, political and social organisations, and local citizens paid homage at memorials, laying floral wreaths and offering prayers.
Schools, colleges, and local associations organised parades and athletic displays, combining respect for the martyrs with celebratory engagement.
Pirojpur
In Pirojpur, the Independence Day programme began at 8:30am with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shaheed Smriti Stambha in Bagirathi Chowrangi.
Police, Ansar, fire service personnel, and students participated in a parade and physical exercise demonstrations. The district administration also hosted receptions for freedom fighters as part of the day’s commemorations.
Chuadanga
Chuadanga observed the day with floral tributes at the city’s Shaheed Smriti Stambha at sunrise. Wreaths were placed by local officials, freedom fighters, education institutions, and civic organisations.
Prayers and special supplications followed to honour the martyrs’ souls. A parade by students at the Old Stadium added a lively element to the observance.
Khulna
In Khulna, early morning ceremonies at the Gollamari Smriti Stambha saw freedom fighters’ associations, district BNP, city corporations, and social organisations paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs.
Wreaths and floral arrangements marked respect and remembrance.
Chandpur
Chandpur observed Independence Day across government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions.
At sunrise, 31-gun salutes were fired along the Angikar Road railway line. Floral tributes were laid at the ‘Angikar’ memorial to honour those who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War.
Meherpur
In Meherpur, the day began with wreath-laying at the Shaheed Smriti Stambha in College Mor.
Citizens from various social and professional backgrounds paid homage to the martyrs. Special prayers and supplications were held for the departed heroes, while the district administration hosted programmes throughout the day.
Lakshmipur
In Lakshmipur, 31-gun salutes at 5:55am marked the start of the day’s events.
Wreaths were laid at the freedom fighters’ memorial by the district administration, police, and local leaders.
Special prayers were held at Bagbari cemetery for the martyrs’ souls. Various social and cultural organisations conducted programmes, ensuring community participation throughout the day.
