Barcelona brought their 2024–25 campaign to a triumphant close with a commanding 3-0 away win over Athletic Club at San Mamés — a result that not only capped off a highly successful season for the Catalan giants but also saw Robert Lewandowski etch his name deeper into the club’s history books.

The Polish striker led the charge early on, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes to surpass the 100-goal mark in a Barcelona shirt, finishing the season with 27 goals in LaLiga — just four behind top scorer Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid.

A historic brace in Bilbao

Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a moment of class and composure. Picking up the ball on the edge of the area, he calmly entered the box and chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to make it 1-0. That goal marked his 100th for Barcelona since joining the club in 2022.

Just three minutes later, he struck again. A corner initially cleared by the Athletic defence fell kindly at the back post, where Lewandowski found himself unmarked and made no mistake from close range — registering his 101st goal for the Catalans.

The early double set the tone for a dominant Barcelona performance, even as the match’s tempo dipped in the second half. Despite some sporadic chances from both sides, the game remained firmly under Barcelona’s control.

Olmo seals the win, and the treble

The match was all but decided late in the second half when Dani Olmo was brought down in the area. After a brief VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty. Olmo stepped up and calmly converted to round off the 3-0 victory in the 88th minute.

With the win, Barcelona secured a domestic treble, having already clinched the Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercopa earlier in the campaign. The result also ensured a high note to end their season, reaffirming the squad’s resurgence under manager Hansi Flick.

For Lewandowski, the evening was yet another milestone in a career already brimming with accolades. Reaching 100 goals in just three seasons highlights his consistency and elite status — even as he nears the twilight of his playing days.

Barcelona will now shift their focus toward next season with renewed confidence, aiming to carry this momentum into European competition.
