Ziad Rahbani, the influential Lebanese musician, composer and playwright, and son of legendary singer Fairouz, has passed away at the age of 69 after years of health struggles.
Renowned for his sharp satire, emotional depth and fearless political commentary, Ziad carved out a bold artistic legacy distinct from his famous family. From his teenage debut composing ‘Sa’alouni El Nas’ for his mother, to groundbreaking plays like ‘Bennesbeh La Bukra Shou?’, his work captured the heart of Lebanese society with wit and honesty.
Raised in a creative household by Fairouz and composer Assi Rahbani, Ziad fused traditional Arabic music with jazz and Western styles. His stage works and solo compositions resonated across generations, with hits like ‘Ana Mosh Kafir’, ‘Hudou’ Nisbi’, and ‘Al Bosta’.
He also composed beloved hymns, blending sacred church music with modern arrangements — a testament to his deep musical curiosity and spiritual sensitivity.
Ziad Rahbani leaves behind a singular legacy — rebellious, human and profoundly Lebanese.
