Launch operations on the Paturia–Daulatdia route resumed on Saturday morning after a 13-hour suspension caused by damage to pontoon from strong Padma River currents.
Paturia Launch Ghat Manager Panna Lal Nandi said services were halted around 6:30pm on Friday after the ramp of temporary Launch Ghat No. 2 became unusable, disrupting communication with 21 south-western districts.
After urgent repairs, launches began operating again around 7:30am from the Karaitala area next to Paturia Ferry Ghat No. 1 on a temporary basis, but without a pontoon, he said.
“Passengers are crossing with great difficulty. A permanent ghat must be arranged quickly, or services on the route will stop again,” Nandi warned.
Earlier on Tuesday, the main Launch Ghat No. 1 was washed away by river erosion, forcing authorities to shift to the temporary facility. The latest suspension occurred after soil under the ramp of Ghat No. 2 was washed away.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation and assessing long-term measures to stabilise the terminals, officials said.
