Land dispute claims 3 lives in Kurigram

Three people were killed in a clash between two groups over a longstanding land dispute in Bhundar Char area of Roumari upazila, Kurigram. The incident occurred around 12 noon on Thursday.

At least 15 to 20 others were injured during the altercation and were admitted to Roumari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Nurul Amin (40), son of Anwar Hossain; Bulu Mia (55), son of Golam Mia; and Fulbabu (50).

According to local sources, there had been a protracted dispute between the supporters of Shahjahan Mia and Raju Mia over the ownership of a plot of land in the area. Several legal cases had already been filed regarding the disputed property.

On Thursday noon, tensions escalated when Shahjahan Mia’s men attempted to irrigate the disputed land, prompting resistance from Raju Mia’s group. A violent clash ensued, resulting in the immediate death of the three individuals, all of whom were reportedly supporters of Shahjahan Mia.

Roumari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that one person has been detained in connection with the violence. Additional police forces have been deployed to the area, and the situation is currently under control.
