Amidst protests from faculty members, the interim Vice Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Md Hazrat Ali has resigned from his position, UNB reports.

KUET Deputy Registrar Abdur Rahman confirmed on Thursday that Hazrat submitted his resignation letter to the Education Ministry.

At around 11:30am, the KUET Teachers’ Association put up a human chain on campus demanding Hazrat’s resignation and appointment of a new VC.

Earlier on May 1, the Education Ministry appointed Hazrat, a professor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), as KUET’s interim VC.

On May 19, Hazrat left the campus for Dhaka, citing official reasons in the face of back-to-back movements by both teachers and students at the university.

Earlier on April 25, the Education Ministry had withdrawn the then KUET VC Professor Mohammad Mashud and Pro-VC Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam after a movement by the students.
