According to reports, Bangladesh Premier League giants Bashundhara Kings have completed the signing of Cuba Mitchell, a 19-year-old midfielder from English club Sunderland AFC’s Under-21 side.

Mitchell, who was born in Birmingham to a Bangladeshi mother and Jamaican father, officially received his Bangladeshi passport on 2 June. Although he has yet to make his international debut, he is considered a promising talent for the future of Bangladesh football.

His contract with Sunderland U-21 expired on 1 July. During his time with the English club, Mitchell made 25 appearances for the U-18 team—scoring one goal and assisting once—and also featured in 12 matches at the U-21 level.

The timing of the signing is significant, as the Kings are preparing for a crucial AFC Challenge League playoff fixture against Syria’s Al-Karamah, scheduled to take place on 12 August in Doha. A win would see the Kings qualify for the tournament’s main round.

Mitchell’s addition is expected to bolster the midfield as the club strengthens its squad for continental competition.
