BNP has called upon its all leaders and activists to refrain from cutting any cakes or holding any celebrations on the occasion of party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s birthday.

Instead, the party has asked its members to observe the day with only prayers and religious gatherings, according to a press release on Thursday.

Friday will mark the 81st birthday of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, for which BNP has announced a series of programmes.

The programmes will include special prayers (milad and dua mahfil) sessions across the country, including at party offices or mosques, seeking good health and long life for Khaleda Zia.

The prayers will also be offered for the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 pro-democracy movement, and the 2024 mass uprising, as well as for the quick recovery of those injured in the movement.

Meanwhile, a central prayer gathering will be held at 11am on Friday on the ground floor of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan in Dhaka. Senior BNP leaders will be present.

BNP and all its affiliated and associate bodies have been requested to ensure participation of leaders, activists, and supporters at prayer gatherings.
