Bayern Munich started their Bundesliga title defence in style. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick. Michael Olise netted twice. Luis Díaz scored on his debut. The result was a crushing 6-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.
The 62nd Bundesliga season opened with this blockbuster clash. Bayern came in as defending champions. Leipzig, a regular top-four side, faced a tough challenge.
Vincent Kompany’s team entered the game full of confidence. They had recently beaten VfB Stuttgart in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup. For Leipzig, this was Ole Werner’s first match as head coach. Few debuts could be tougher.
Bayern were missing key players. Jamal Musiala was sidelined with a muscle injury. Tom Bischof had appendix surgery. Alphonso Davies was out with a ligament injury. Hiroki Ito had a broken foot. Despite that, Bayern’s depth was on full display.
They controlled the ball from the start. In the first 16 minutes, they had over 70 percent possession. Their pressing was fierce. Bayern won the ball back in just 11 seconds on average. Leipzig needed more than twice that time.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute. Josip Stanišić played in Olise, who drilled a low shot into the corner.
Five minutes later, Díaz doubled the lead. The Colombian smashed a thunderous strike off the underside of the bar after clever work from Joshua Kimmich and Kane.
Olise struck again before the break. In the 42nd minute, Serge Gnabry set him up for a calm left-footed finish.
Leipzig went into half-time three goals down. Werner made two changes. Antonio Nusa and Rômulo replaced Yan Diomande and Loïs Openda.
The visitors looked brighter after the restart. But Bayern struck again in the 64th minute. A quick counter ended with Díaz assisting Kane for a clinical finish.
Leipzig briefly celebrated when Nusa found the net. The joy was short-lived. The goal was ruled out because the ball was moving during the free-kick.
Kane then stole the show. In the 74th minute, he curled a perfect strike into the bottom corner. Four minutes later, he completed his hat-trick after being released by Minjae Kim.
It was a masterclass in finishing from the England captain. He dropped deep to link play, created chances for teammates, and showed ruthless precision in front of goal.
The hat-trick was his third in the Bundesliga. At 32 years old, Kane is now chasing history. He is closing in on legends Gerd Müller, who has seven, and Klaus Fischer, who has five.
Bayern’s 6-0 win sent a clear message. The champions are ready to dominate again.
