Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop superstar Katy Perry were spotted dining together in Montreal this week, setting off a wave of speculation about the nature of their relationship.

The pair spent around two hours at Le Violon, a high-end restaurant in the city, on Monday evening. A communications consultant for the restaurant, Samantha Jin, confirmed their visit and described the atmosphere as relaxed and low-key.

“They kept to themselves and gave off a chill vibe,” Jin said. “There were no signs of public affection or anything romantic.” She noted that neither staff nor other diners approached them for photos, suggesting that the two were focused on their conversation.

The dinner first gained public attention after TMZ released photos and video showing Perry and Trudeau in what appeared to be an animated discussion. Though the footage sparked rumors of a possible romance, sources at the restaurant indicated otherwise.

Perry, who recently split from actor Orlando Bloom, is currently on tour with stops across Canada, including Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto. Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire announced their separation in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.

According to Jin, the duo enjoyed a chef’s tasting menu curated by Le Violon’s chef, Danny Smiles. The meal featured appetizers such as tuna, steak tartare, lobster and asparagus, with lamb as the main course.

Smiles greeted the pair during the meal, and both Perry and Trudeau visited the kitchen before leaving to personally thank the staff. Security remained present throughout the evening but kept a respectful distance.

Representatives for both Trudeau and Perry have not yet commented on the dinner.

Trudeau, who stepped down from office earlier this year after nearly a decade as prime minister, comes from a political family known for its ties to celebrities. His father, Pierre Trudeau, dated Barbra Streisand and Kim Cattrall during his time in office before marrying at age 51.

Perry, a 13-time Grammy nominee and one of the best-selling music artists of all time, rose to fame with her 2010 album ‘Teenage Dream’, which produced five No. 1 singles — a feat only previously achieved by Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’.
