Justice Khondokar Diliruzzaman was removed. A gazette notification confirming the removal of Justice Khondokar Diliruzzaman from High Court Division was issued on Wednesday.

The decision was made under the authority of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, in accordance with Article 96(6) of Bangladesh constitution.

The notification was signed by Sheikh Abu Taher, Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Justice Diliruzzaman was among 12 High Court judges suspended from judicial duties in October 2024 following student-led protests alleging judicial bias and misconduct.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), comprising the Chief Justice and the two most senior judges of the Appellate Division, conducted investigations into the allegations. Subsequently, the SJC recommended the removal of several judges, including Justice Diliruzzaman, for gross misconduct and incapacity.

The President’s decision to remove Justice Diliruzzaman aligns with the constitutional provisions restored by the Supreme Court in October 2024, which reaffirmed the SJC’s authority to investigate and recommend the removal of judges for misconduct or incapacity.
