The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) will celebrate Olympic Day on Tuesday, 24 June, with ceremonial rallies across the capital and seven other divisional headquarters, marking the founding anniversary of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
While Olympic Day is traditionally observed worldwide on 23 June, this year’s celebration in Bangladesh has been scheduled a day later. The highlight of the occasion will be the Olympic Day Run in Dhaka, which is set to begin at 6:30 am from the Bangladesh Shishu Academy and conclude at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The route will pass through key city landmarks including Shikkha Bhaban, the Bangladesh Secretariat, Zero Point, and the GPO area.
BOA President and Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, will attend the event as the chief guest. The programme is being supported by the IOC, along with corporate sponsors Square Food and Beverage Limited and Sheltech (Private) Limited.
An estimated 2,000 participants—including athletes, sports organisers, coaches, trainers, officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, representatives of the National Sports Council (NSC), and members of civil and military organisations—are expected to take part in the rally.
Following the run, the Bangladesh Army Orchestra will stage a cultural performance at the national stadium to cap off the day’s celebrations.
