‘July Martyrs’ Day’: State mourning to be observed Wednesday

The government has declared a one-day state mourning on Wednesday to commemorate the ‘July Martyrs’ Day’.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday.

As part of the observance, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous and educational institutions, as well as on all government and non-government buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad, the notification states.

Special prayers for the martyrs will be offered at all mosques and other religious establishments across the country on Wednesday.

On July 16 last year, Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, was shot dead by police during the July uprising. To commemorate the day the government declared July 16 as July Martyrs’ Day’.
