The interim government will formally present the “July Declaration” to the nation at a public gathering on Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue at 5pm on August 5, sources at the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed Sunday.
In a Facebook post from the verified account of the Chief Adviser, it was stated: “On this day last year, the world witnessed an unprecedented mass uprising that forced the fascist regime to flee Bangladesh. Through martyrs’ blood and fighters’ sacrifices, the entire nation stood united, with streets overflowing with jubilant crowds as emotionally overwhelmed citizens thanked the Creator.”
The post added: “One year later, as we observe 36th July, the long-awaited July Declaration will finally be announced.”
Daylong programs have been scheduled at Manik Mia Avenue to mark the occasion. Officials confirmed the Declaration will be read in presence of participants from last year’s historic uprising.
The drafting process began after Students Against Discrimination (SAD) demanded such a proclamation last December. On December 30, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing had announced the interim government’s initiative to prepare this consensus-based national declaration.
