Students from private universities across the country have demanded that July 18 be declared “Private University Resistance Day” and recognised as a National Day of Observance.
The Private University Students’ Alliance of Bangladesh (PUSAB) made the demand in a social media statement on Monday afternoon.
In response, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, stated that the government will announce its official calendar on Tuesday following a July commemoration meeting.
He indicated that July 18 – marking the courageous struggle of private university students – will be fully dedicated to their resistance in the national calendar. Alam also hinted that the day may be officially included as “Private University Resistance Day.”
PUSAB’s post emphasised that without the historic resistance on July 18, the victory on August 5 would not have been possible. The day saw the highest number of student casualties, making national recognition imperative, they said.
