The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Saturday unveiled the 8-point manifesto of its Sadi-Baishakhi-Sajjad-Ikra panel for the upcoming Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election, emphasizing quality education, research, and a safe, student-friendly campus.

The manifesto was announced at a press conference near the Odommo 24 memorial on campus by panel vice president candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan.

The eight key pledges outlined by the panel include: Ensuring international-standard education and research, creating a safe, inclusive, free, and student-friendly campus, planned housing and improved food quality, safe learning spaces and health protection for female students, provision of quality healthcare services, development of an organised campus transport system, promotion of sports and cultural activities, and the establishment of an environment and animal-friendly campus.

Sheikh Sadi Hasan said, “Jahangirnagar University is the country’s cultural capital and a symbol of independent thought. During the July 2024 mass uprising, waves of protest spread from here. After 33 years, we are ready for the election.”

He added, “JCD has consistently fought to ensure a student-friendly and safe campus. These eight pledges reflect students’ hopes and aspirations.”

GS candidate Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi highlighted plans to address campus transport issues, saying, “We will increase the number of regulated auto-rickshaws and electric vehicles, review bus routes, and introduce new routes. GPS trackers will be installed on all buses with mobile apps for tracking. Bicycle and motorcycle parking, footpaths, and internal roads will be upgraded to promote eco-friendly travel.”

JU Chhatra Dal convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, member-secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik, senior joint convener Affan Ali, and other leaders were also present at the event.

The JCD JU branch had earlier, on August 28, announced its full 25-member panel, naming Sheikh Sadi Hasan as VP, Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi as GS, Md. Sajjadul Islam as AGS (Male), and Anjuman Ara Ikra as AGS (Female).
