Jonathan David made an instant impact on his Serie A debut, scoring the opening goal in Juventus’ 2-0 home victory over Parma on Sunday.

The Canadian striker guided in Kenan Yildiz’s low cross just before the hour mark to give Juve the lead at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, sealing a solid start to the new campaign for Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

“It was everything I hoped for,” said David to DAZN. “I’m happy to score in my first game. But the most important thing is the three points. The target is to help the team as much as I can — scoring goals, getting assists, or running back and defending.”

Signed as a free agent to add much-needed cutting edge to Juve’s forward line, David showed the predatory instincts that earned him acclaim during his time at Lille. His arrival has raised questions over the future of Dusan Vlahovic, who has struggled for form and is reportedly on the transfer list.

Yet it was Vlahovic who added Juve’s second in the 84th minute, tapping home another Yildiz cross just moments after Andrea Cambiaso was shown a straight red card for lashing out at Mathias Lovik.

The match also marked the return of Brazilian centre-back Gleison Bremer, back in the starting XI after missing most of last season with a torn ACL.

Scamacca scores on emotional Atalanta return

Gianluca Scamacca scored his first goal in over a year as Atalanta drew 1-1 with newly-promoted Pisa in their Serie A opener.

Scamacca, who missed much of last season with an ACL injury, levelled the score with a confident strike in the 50th minute after an own-goal from Isak Hien had given Pisa a surprise lead.

“A lot of time has passed but I worked this hard so I could have moments like this,” said Scamacca, whose last goal came in May 2024. “It’s a shame that we only managed to draw but it was a good performance.”

The Italy international, one of the key players in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, struck the crossbar with a towering header shortly after scoring. He was warmly applauded off the pitch when substituted in the 72nd minute.

His return to form is a welcome boost for new coach Ivan Juric, following the big-money departure of Mateo Retegui to Saudi Arabia.

Como continue rise with victory over Lazio

Como signalled their intent for another strong Serie A campaign with a confident 2-0 win over Lazio at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Tasos Douvikas opened the scoring in the first half before Nico Paz curled in a sublime free-kick in the 73rd minute to seal the result. A powerful strike from Mergim Vojvoda nearly added a third but crashed off the crossbar.

Under head coach Cesc Fabregas and backed by Indonesian conglomerate Djarum, the ambitious club has quickly established itself after last season’s impressive 10th-place finish.

Lazio, hampered by a transfer ban until January, were second best throughout and looked well off the pace.

Luperto rescues point for Cagliari

Sebastiano Luperto scored a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time to earn Cagliari a 1-1 draw at home against Fiorentina.

The centre-back rose highest to power in a header in the fourth minute of added time, cancelling out Fiorentina’s earlier opener and salvaging a valuable point for the Sardinians.
