The JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Bangladesh Office has issued an urgent warning against fraudulent activities falsely using its name to promote fake savings schemes, loans, and job opportunities on various online and social media platforms.
In an official statement on Thursday, JICA clarified that it does not offer individual loans, charge recruitment fees, or operate any savings schemes – all claims being circulated by scammers are entirely fabricated.
The agency urged the public to verify information through its official channels and report suspicious offers.
“JICA remains committed to supporting Bangladesh’s development through transparent partnerships,” the statement emphasised, condemning the misuse of its reputation for deceptive financial scams.
Fraudulent Facebook posts have recently targeted unsuspecting individuals with promises of loans in exchange for advance fees, as well as fictitious job openings.
The agency’s verified Facebook page reinforced the alert, specifying that authentic opportunities are only advertised through JICA’s website (https://www.jica.go.jp/english/overseas/bangladesh/index.html), official Facebook page, and national newspapers.
“We bear no responsibility for losses stemming from these scams,” JICA cautioned, directing victims to report fraud via email (bd_oso_rep@jica.go.jp) or verified social media.
JICA authorities advise cross-checking offers with official sources before engaging to avoid exploitation.
