Bangladesh’s pioneering umpire Sathira Jakir Jessy continues to break new ground. Only a day after news emerged that she will officiate at the upcoming Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, the former Bangladesh off-spinner has received another landmark appointment.

Jessy has been named in the umpiring panel for the three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, which begins in Sylhet on 30 August. This makes her the first Bangladeshi woman to officiate in men’s international matches.

Although she will not take on on-field duties, Jessy will serve as fourth umpire in the first and third matches and as third umpire in the second fixture. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the match officials on Wednesday.

The first T20I will see Tanvir Ahmed and Morshed Ali Khan as the on-field umpires, with Masudur Rahman Mukul acting as third umpire. In the second game, Tanvir will be joined by Mukul on-field, with Jessy in the third umpire’s chair. The final match will have Mukul and Morshed on-field, Tanvir as third umpire and Jessy as the fourth umpire.

The series will be played on 30 August, 1 September and 3 September in Sylhet.

Jessy’s rise in umpiring has been swift. She joined the ICC Development Panel in 2024 and has since stood in several high-profile women’s events. Her inclusion in the upcoming Women’s World Cup match officials’ list underlines her growing stature in the game.
