A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was fatally stabbed in Joypurhat Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The victim, Biplob Ahmed Piyal, was politically active as a senior joint convener of Joypurhat town unit of JCD and was the son of Mohammad Bachchu Miah from Islamnagar. He succumbed to his injuries at Joypurhat General Hospital shortly after the noon attack near his residence.

Family members alleged the killing was orchestrated by a group including Sohail, Rubel, Kawsar, and Rajjak — individuals reportedly involved in drug peddling. “Piyal had faced multiple attacks earlier for opposing their narcotics trade,” locals told reporters, noting longstanding enmity between the groups.

Joypurhat Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab confirmed, “We’re working to apprehend those responsible,” although no arrests were reported at the time of filing this report.
