JCD leader killed, 15 injured in B’baria clash

A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, was killed and 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday over establishing supremacy in the area.

The clash occurred on Saturday, July 5, around noon at the Chhatlapar Bazaar in the Chhatlapar Union of the upazila.

The deceased was Sohrab Mia, 28, son of late Chan Mia of Kathalkandi village and joint secretary of the Chatolpara Union unit Chhatra Dal. The identities of the injured are not yet known, but they are receiving local medical treatment.

It has been reported that there had been a long-standing conflict between ‘Ulla Faction’ and ‘Molla Faction’ of Kathalkandi village over establishing dominance in the area.

Tension escalated between the two groups on Saturday morning due to this dispute. Around noon, they engaged in a clash using local weapons.

During the hour-long clash, Sohrab, a supporter of the Molla faction, was seriously injured and died on the way to the hospital. At least 15 others were injured in the incident.

Tapan Sarkar, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of the Sarail Circle, said that the dispute between the two factions had been ongoing for several months over establishing dominance, leading to Saturday’s clash.

Upon receiving the news, police reached the scene and brought the situation under control. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area.

Legal action regarding the incident is underway.
