A clash occurred between Jatiya Party (JaPa) and Gono Odhikar Parishad activists in the city’s Kakrail area on Friday. The incident took place around 6:30pm in front of the Jatiya Party office.
Following the clash, a large number of law enforcement personnel, including army and police, were deployed to the area. Ramna Police Duty Officer Arup Talukdar has confirmed the matter to Times of Bangladesh.
Responding to a query, Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan said, “We held a protest on Friday demanding a ban on the activities of Jatiya Party, which is an Awami League ally. After the protest at our central office, we were marching from Paltan Zero Point towards Nightingale Mor.
“When we passed the Jatiya Party office, bricks were thrown at us from behind. Around 300–400 people were present in front of the Jatiya Party office. We suspect that in addition to Jatiya Party members, Awami League and Jubo League activists were also involved.”
Khan added, “As a result, 10-15 of our activists were injured, and several were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.”
Jatiya Party activists, on the other hand, alleged that Gono Odhikar Parishad members initiated the clash by attacking them while marching.
