Bangladeshi hindu communities celebrate happy Krishna Janmashtami on Saturday

Hindu communities across Bangladesh celebrates Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, on Saturday with religious fervour on Saturday.

According to tradition, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Krishna in Mathura’s prison of Raja Kangsa on the eighth of Shukla Pakkha in the Bengali month of Bhadra during Dwapara Yuga to protect Dharma from evil.

The day was observed as a public holiday, with national dailies publishing special articles and Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, along with private TV channels and radio stations airing dedicated programmes on Krishna’s life and teachings. Various social, cultural, and religious organisations also organised events to mark the occasion.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus extended greetings to the Hindu community on Friday. In his message, he said Janmashtami is one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community.

“Lord Sri Krishna has spread the message of justice, human compassion and peace in society. Wherever he witnessed injustice or oppression, he appeared to protect the forces of good from the forces of evil. His philosophy and values—centered on devotion to the creator and the establishment of peace in society—will continue to inspire not only followers of Sanatan Dharma but people of all faiths,” Yunus said.
